Zayyan (English spelling)

…Under this dynasty, the Arabization of Morocco and the Islamization of the interior and mountain regions progressed. From the 13th to the 16th centuries, three Berber dynasties stood in power: the Marinid dynasty (1196-1465), the Zayyan dynasty (Abd Arwad dynasty, 1236-1550), and the Hafsid dynasty (1228-1574). They were plagued by civil wars and conflicts, but it was also during this period that the greatest travelers and scholars in the history of the Maghreb, Ibn Battuta and Ibn Khaldun, were born.
