Original song selection - Genkyokusen

This is a collection of scripts from Yuan zaju, a form of theatre from the Yuan dynasty in China. Starting with Ma Zhiyuan's "Autumn in the Han Palace" (Kankyushu), this book is a collection of 100 scripts, including most of the masterpieces of Yuan zaju, and is also known as "Hundred Songs of the Yuan People," but it also includes some works by early Ming authors. It was compiled by Zang Maojun (pen name Jinshu, ?-1621) of the Ming dynasty, and published in 1616 (44th year of the Wanli era). Many of the scripts appear to have been edited by Zang, but the lines and stage directions, which are often overlooked in this type of work, are well organized, and the text is well-organized with phonetic notes. It can be said that this book was created in response to the demands of an era when Beiqu zaju had already disappeared from the stage and become something to read and enjoy. Because it is easy to read, it has been the most widely circulated text of Yuan Zaju. A few copies of the illustrated original edition have been imported into Japan. Modern research on Yuan Zaju has generally been conducted using this text as a basic resource.

中国、元代の演劇である元雑劇(ざつげき)の脚本選集。馬致遠(ばちえん)の『漢宮秋(かんきゅうしゅう)』を巻頭に、元雑劇の名作の大半を含む100種の脚本を集めて、別名を『元人百種曲』ともいうが、一部に明(みん)初の作家の作品も混入している。編者は明の臧懋循(ぞうぼうじゅん)（字(あざな)、晋叔(しんしゅく)。？―1621）で、1616年（万暦44）の刊行。脚本の多くは臧氏の校訂の手が入っているとみられるが、この種のものではとかく軽視されてきた台詞(せりふ)やト書も整っており、音注も付されてよく整理されたテキストになっている。すでに北曲雑劇が舞台の上からは消えて、もっぱら読んで楽しむものとなっていた時代の要求が生み出した本といえる。読みやすいこともあって、元雑劇のテキストとしては従来もっとも広く流布してきたものである。絵入りの雕虫館(ちょうちゅうかん)原刊本がわが国にも若干部舶載されている。近代以降の元雑劇の研究も、一般にはまずこのテキストを基本資料として進められてきた。
