[一] 宮城県中部を東流する川。奥羽山脈の二口(ふたくち)峠付近に発し、名取市閖上(ゆりあげ)で太平洋に注ぐ。全長五五キロメートル。※古今(905‐914)恋三・六二八「みちのくにありといふなるなとり川なき名とりては苦しかりけり〈壬生忠岑〉」[二] 狂言。各流。上方のある寺の稚児から希代(きたい)坊・不祥(肖)坊という二つの名前をつけてもらった遠国の僧が喜んで郷里にもどって行く。僧が東国の名取川を渡る途中ころんでその名前を忘れてしまい、名前が流れたと笠で水をすくっていると、土地の者が現われ、その男の話から希代坊・不祥(肖)坊の名前を思い出す。
