Kakuzo Okakura - Kakuzo Okakura

...Art instructor of the Meiji period. Born as the second son of Ishikawaya Kan'emon, a trader in Yokohama with a background in the Echizen Fukui domain. His childhood name was Kakuzo, later changed to Kakuzo. He learned English from an early age and was familiar with Chinese classics. After graduating from the Tokyo School of Foreign Languages ​​and the Tokyo Kaisei School, he entered the Faculty of Letters at the University of Tokyo in 1877, where he studied political science and finance, among other subjects. There he came into contact with the American teacher Ernest Fenollosa, and assisted him in his research into Japanese art, which gave him the direction he would take in life.
