One of the leading Holiness churches in the United States. Founded in 1895 in Los Angeles by Methodist pastor Ph. Brize. In 1907 it merged with the American Pentecostal Association to become the Nazarene Pentecostal Church, and in 1908 it merged with Christ Holiness Church, a Southern Holiness church. It was renamed the Church of the Nazarene at its general meeting in 1919. It is based on Methodism.
