Ginzandaira

The plain is located in the valley bottom of the upper reaches of the Tadami River, straddling Niigata Prefecture and Fukushima Prefecture. It is part of Uonuma City, Niigata Prefecture and Hiedami Village, Fukushima Prefecture. A silver mine was discovered in 1641, and a border dispute arose the following year. In 1646, the border between the two prefectures was finalized as it is today. In 1859, a rockfall caused a decline in the area. At its peak, it is said that there were about 1,000 mining villages. From the end of the Meiji period to the beginning of the Taisho period, Desaku Village (→ Desaku) and Kaitaku Village were established, but they were isolated self-sufficient mountain villages. In 1961, the construction of the Okutadami Dam created the artificial Ginzan Lake (Lake Okutadami), and the center of the area was submerged at the bottom of the lake. The Okutadami Silver Line, which connects Uonuma City and Okutadami Power Station, opened in 1971, with 18km of the 22km length of the line being tunnels. There are also sightseeing boats on the lake, which attracts many tourists. The lake is part of the Echigo-Sanzan-Tadami Quasi-National Park.

新潟県と福島県にまたがる只見川上流の谷底平野。新潟県魚沼市と福島県檜枝岐村に属する。寛永 18 (1641) 年銀山が発見され，翌年銀山をめぐる境界紛争が起こり，正保3 (1646) 年に今日のような両県の境界が確定した。安政6 (1859) 年落盤事故により衰微。最盛期には約 1000戸の鉱山集落が出現したといわれる。明治末期から大正初期にかけて，出作村 (→出作 ) や開拓村ができたが，隔絶性の強い自給自足の山村であった。 1961年奥只見ダムの建設により人工の銀山湖 (奥只見湖) が出現，中心部は湖底に沈んだ。魚沼市と奥只見発電所を結ぶ延長 22kmのうち 18kmはトンネルという奥只見シルバーラインが 1971年に開通。湖には遊覧船もあり多くの観光客を集めている。越後三山只見国定公園に属する。
