Kabira Bay

A small bay on the western side of Ishigaki Island in the Yaeyama Islands of Okinawa Prefecture. Bordering the Kabira district, it is surrounded by fringing coral reefs and small islands and is renowned as one of the most beautiful coves in Okinawa. Kabira Park is located on the southern shore of the bay and is a mecca for Yaeyama tourism. Black pearls were cultivated here, but in 1980 (Showa 55) they were temporarily moved to Iriomote Island due to water pollution and were later restarted.

沖縄県八重山(やえやま)列島の石垣島西部にある小湾。川平地区に接し、裾礁(きょしょう)からなるサンゴ礁(しょう)や小島に取り巻かれ、沖縄のなかでもっとも美しい入り江の一つとして名高い。湾の南岸には川平公園が設置され、八重山観光のメッカとなっている。黒真珠の養殖が行われてきたが、1980年（昭和55）水質汚染のため、一時西表(いりおもて)島へ移され、のちに再開された。
