Nakhon Si Thammarat

A port city on the Gulf of Thailand at the base of the Malay Peninsula in southern Thailand. Formerly Ligor. Exports seafood, copra, rubber, tin, etc. Traditional crafts such as silver inlay and shadow puppets (Nan) are also produced here. Old temples such as Wat Mahathat are located here. Ligor was a tributary state to the Sukhothai, Ayutthaya, and Bangkok dynasties. Yamada Nagamasa was appointed governor of the area and died here. Population: 269,433 (2006).

タイ南部，マレー半島基部のタイランド湾岸にある港湾都市。旧名リゴールLigor（六昆）。海産物，コプラ，ゴム，スズなどを輸出する。銀象嵌細工，影絵芝居（ナン）の人形などの伝統工芸品の生産も盛ん。ワットマハータートなどの古い寺院がある。リゴールはスコータイ朝，アユタヤ朝，バンコク朝の朝貢国であった。また，山田長政はこの地の国守に任ぜられてここで没した。26万9433人（2006）。
