Takanawa Peninsula

Japanese: 高縄半島 - たかなわはんとう
Takanawa Peninsula

Located in the center of Ehime Prefecture, this peninsula juts out into the Seto Inland Sea. To the north is the Kurushima Strait and Imabari Plain, to the east the Hiuchi Nada Sea and Shuso Plain, to the west the Itsuki Nada Sea and Matsuyama Plain, and to the south the Ishizuchi Fault Line. The northern inner zone of the Median Tectonic Line is made up of the Mesozoic Ryoke Granite Belt, and its highest peaks, Higashimikatagamori (1,233 meters), Naraharayama (1,042 meters), and Myojingamori (1,217 meters), are old volcanoes. Mount Takanawa (986 meters) is known for Takanawa Castle, built by the Kono clan in the Middle Ages, and Takanawa Temple. Rivers such as the Nakayama River, Daimyojin River, Tonda River, Soja River, Tateiwa River, Shigenobu River, and Ishite River flow out of these mountains, and through reservoirs and dams, they serve as important sources of water for the surrounding cities and farmland. There are also hot springs such as Dogo, Okudogo, Nibukawa, and Gongen, and parts of them belong to Okudogo Tamagawa Prefectural Natural Park and Setonaikai National Park.
