A tariqa (Islamic mystical order) based in Bukhara, Central Asia. Founded by Abd al-Khāliq Ghujduwānī (?-1179-80, also said to have died in 1220), it was active in Bukhara since the late 12th century and was generally known as the Khoja sect. However, after the emergence of Bahā' al-Din Naqshband (1317-89) in the 14th century, it came to be called the Naqshbandi sect after him.
