WPA - Double Propaganda

A security standard for wireless LAN. It was proposed by the Wi-Fi Alliance, an industry group for the promotion of wireless LAN products and interoperability verification. It is an abbreviation for Wi-Fi protected access.

WEP was developed as a successor to WEP, a security standard for wireless LANs used in the early days, after vulnerabilities were found. WPA2 is an improved version of WPA, and as of 2015, it is the mainstream security standard. WPA and WPA2 use encryption algorithms TKIP and AES. Both use a method of changing the encryption key at regular intervals, but AES is considered to be a stronger encryption method than TKIP. TKIP is required for WPA, but AES can also be used, and they are written as WPA-TKIP and WPA-AES, respectively, but since TKIP is the main standard, WPA is sometimes considered to mean TKIP. On the other hand, WPA2 uses AES, and TKIP can also be used in some areas. They are written as WPA2-TKIP and WPA2-AES, respectively. Among these, WPA2-AES is considered to be particularly secure.

The encryption key is automatically changed during communication, but when accessing for the first time, it is necessary to enter a common ID and password to connect. This is called PSK (Pre-Shared Key). Since it is required to use WPA and WPA2, WPA and WPA2 are sometimes referred to as WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK.

無線LAN(ラン)のセキュリティ規格。無線LAN製品の普及と相互接続性検証のための業界団体、Wi-Fi Alliance(ワイファイアライアンス)が提唱したもの。Wi-Fi protected accessの略。

　初期に利用されていた無線LANのセキュリティ規格であるWEP(ウェップ)に脆弱(ぜいじゃく)性がみつかったため、その後継規格として開発された。WPAを改良した規格としてWPA2があり、2015年時点ではセキュリティ規格の主流となっている。WPAやWPA2で採用されている暗号化アルゴリズムに、TKIP(ティーキップ)とAESがある。いずれも一定時間ごとに暗号鍵(かぎ)を変更する方式を採用しているが、TKIPよりもAESがより強固な暗号方式とされる。WPAではTKIPが必須でAESの採用も可能であり、それぞれWPA-TKIP、WPA-AESと表すが、TKIPが主であるため、WPA＝TKIPとみなす場合もある。一方、WPA2ではAESが使われ、一部でTKIPも採用できるようになっている。それぞれWPA2-TKIP、WPA2-AESと表す。これらのなかでもとくにWPA2-AESの安全性が高いとされる。

　暗号鍵は通信中に自動変更されるが、最初のアクセスなどでは共通のIDやパスワードなどを入力して接続する必要がある。これをPSK（プリ・シェアード・キー）という。WPAやWPA2を利用するには必須であるため、WPAやWPA2をWPA-PSKやWPA2-PSKと表すこともある。
