Chikayoshi Nakahara
Year of death: 12/18/1209 (1/25/1209)
Year of birth: Kōji 2 (1143)
He was a vassal of the early Kamakura period. He was the son of Hiroki, a doctor of law. According to one theory, he was the son of Fujiwara Mitsuyoshi, a councilor, and was adopted by his maternal grandfather, Hiroki. He was raised in Sagami Province (Kanagawa Prefecture) as a child, and met Minamoto no Yoritomo when he was an exile. He later became a low-ranking official in Kyoto, but when the Genpei War began, he went down to Kamakura and served Yoritomo. He was appointed as a member of the Komonsho in 1184 and as a public affairs magistrate in 1191, and was highly valued by Yoritomo as a practical official, but he also showed a samurai side, taking part in the pursuit of the Taira clan and the Oshu War. He was also often employed as a negotiator with the Imperial Court, and frequently traveled to Kyoto. Furthermore, he was stationed in Kyoto as the Kyoto Shugo from around 1201, and was involved in negotiations with the Imperial Court and liaison between Kyoto and Kamakura. When Yoritomo's daughter Miwata died in 1199, he became a monk and took the name Jakunin, as he was the husband of her wet nurse. Yoshinao, the ancestor of the Otomo clan, is said to be the adopted son of Yoshinao.
