A nail that secures rails to sleepers, prevents rails from lifting, and maintains the correct gauge. It is named after the shape of its head, which resembles a dog's head. There are also screw nails with threads cut into the shaft. As wooden sleepers made of wood such as chestnut, cypress, Japanese cypress, and beech have disappeared, the use of dog nails has decreased, and instead, the use of PC (prestressed concrete) sleepers and bolts has increased.
