Aganooki Oil and Gas Field - Aganooki Gas Field

Japanese: 阿賀沖油･ガス田 - あがおきゆガスでん

Discovered in 1972, this is Japan's first full-scale offshore oil and gas field, and began production in 1976. It is located about 15 km northeast of Niigata City, offshore at a depth of 80 m. The geological structure that forms this oil and gas field is dome-shaped at shallow depths, but forms two anticlines, east and west, at depths, with oil and gas deposits near the tops of these two anticlines. The gas-producing layer is a sandstone layer in the lower Pliocene Nishiyama Formation, and the oil-producing layer is a sandstone layer in the upper Miocene Shiiya Formation, both at depths of about 1,800 to 2,300 m. A dual-purpose drilling and production platform has been installed on the seabed at a depth of 82 m, almost in the center of the two anticlines, and 14 production wells have been drilled from this location.

1972年に発見され76年に生産を開始した日本で最初の本格的海洋油･ガス田。新潟市の北東約15km，水深80mの沖合にある。この油･ガス田を形成している地質構造は，浅部では一つのドーム状を示すが深部では東と西の二つの背斜をなし，その二つの背斜構造の頂部付近に油やガスが賦存している。産ガス層は鮮新世西山層下部の砂岩層，産油層は中新世椎谷層上部の砂岩層で，深度は約1800～2300mにわたっている。この両背斜のほぼ中央部，水深82mの海底に，掘削･生産兼用のプラットホームが設置され，同所より14坑の生産井が設けられている。
