patterned ground

...general term for a more or less symmetrical geometric pattern found on the earth's surface. In English, it is called patterned ground, which describes the actual situation better, but the German word has been used for a long time, and in Japan, this translation has become established. Although it is structurally found in arid regions, it is most commonly found in periglacial regions, so unless otherwise specified, it is treated as a type of periglacial landform created by freezing and thawing.
