...An evergreen shrub of the Cranberry family that grows under evergreen broadleaf forests in warm regions (illustration). Branches with red fruits are used as fresh flowers for New Year. The Japanese name was given to Manryo (Manryo) of the Ardisiaceae family. The stem is erect and sparsely branched, 0.7-1m tall. The leaves are opposite, slightly fleshy, oblong, with sharp sawtooth edges, 6-15cm long, 2-6cm wide, and glossy dark green. In June and July, sparsely branched inflorescences are produced at the ends of the branches, and many small yellow-green flowers are produced. The flowers have no perianth, and consist of one pistil and one stamen attached to its side. ...
