Tsuge [village] - Tsuge

Japanese: 都祁[村] - つげ

A village in Yamabe County, northeastern Nara Prefecture. Population 6,806 (1995). Occupying the eastern part of the Yamato Plateau, most of the village area, which stretches from north to south, is covered in forest. The Meihan National Highway runs east to west through the center, and the Hari Interchange is located there. The main industry is agriculture, mainly rice and tea cultivation, but tea cultivation has grown rapidly in recent years. A tea distribution center has been established near the Hari Interchange, and distribution is also being modernized. The village has many cultural heritage sites, such as the main hall of Tsuki Mikumari Shrine, an important cultural property, and the pagoda of Raigoji Temple, and the Hayama Lily of the Valley colony, a natural monument, is located in the southern part of the village.

奈良県北東部，山辺郡の村。人口6806(1995)。大和高原の東部を占め，南北に長い村域の大半は山林である。中央部を名阪国道が東西に走り，針インターチェンジが設置されている。主産業は稲作と茶栽培を中心とする農業で，近年は茶栽培が急速に伸びている。針インターチェンジ付近には茶の流通センターが設置され，流通の近代化も進んでいる。村内には，重要文化財の都祁水分（みくまり）神社本殿，来迎寺宝塔などの文化遺産が多く，南部には天然記念物の吐山（はやま）スズラン群落もある。
