George Horace Gallup

American pollster. He rose to fame when he predicted Roosevelt's victory in the 1936 presidential election. Through the American Opinion Research Institute (established in 1935), he used scientific sampling methods to depict social, political, and economic trends for half a century. Today, opinion polls are widely used in everything from politicians' election strategies to companies' product development, but he played a pioneering role and made a great contribution to popularizing them around the world.

アメリカの世論調査家。1936年の大統領選挙でルーズベルトの当選を予想し、一躍有名になった。アメリカ世論調査所（1935設立）を通じ、半世紀にわたり、社会・政治・経済の動向を科学的なサンプリング法によって描出した。今日では世論調査は、政治家の選挙戦略から企業の製品開発まで広く利用されているが、その先駆的な役割を果たし、世界に普及させた功績は大きい。
