Niagara Falls - Naiagara Falls (English spelling)

Niagara Falls - Naiagara Falls (English spelling)

A large waterfall that straddles the border between Ontario, Canada and New York, USA. Renowned worldwide for its splendid beauty, it attracts more than 2 million tourists a year, making it one of the most famous tourist destinations in North America. It was formed when the Niagara River, which connects Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, crosses the Niagara Cuesta (a terrain with alternating gentle slopes, steep slopes, and cliffs). It is divided into the Horseshoe Falls (48 meters high, 900 meters wide) and the American Falls (51 meters high, 305 meters wide) by Goat Island. The surface layer that forms the waterfall is hard rock from the Paleozoic era, but the lower layer is softer, so the back of the waterfall is deeply carved out, and the American Falls also has a cave called the "Wind Cave." In addition to the natural beauty of the waterfall itself, you can enjoy a variety of waterfalls, such as the colorful beauty that stands out against the night lights and the spectacular sight of the frozen waterfall against the snowy backdrop in winter. The view from Queen Victoria Park on the Canadian side is said to be particularly beautiful, and there are observation towers and other facilities on both sides of the country. In order to protect the beauty of Niagara Falls, Canada and the United States limit the amount of water flowing through the falls to 2,830 tons per second during the tourist season and half that amount at other times, and use the remaining water (average 3,680 tons per second) for hydroelectric power generation. This electricity is supplied to nearby electrochemical industries and surrounding cities.
