…Years of birth and death unknown. His ideas are mainly conveyed in the Chandogya-upaniṣad, especially in the sixth chapter, in the form of teachings to his son Śuvēketu. According to this, in the beginning, the universe consisted of only being, sat, but being created fire, water, and food, and entered into these three as ātman (self), blending the three to create nāma and rūpa (phenomenal world).

…These are thought to have been written over a period of several hundred years around 500 B.C. Among them, the Bṛhadāraṇyaka‐upaniṣad and the Chāndogya‐upaniṣad are considered to be representative in terms of both quality and quantity. After the “Old Upaniṣads”, many documents bearing the name of the Upaniṣad were created, but these are collectively called the “New Upaniṣads”.
