A female mask with a low nose and full cheeks. Also called Otafuku. Said to be derived from Ame-no-Uzume-no-Mikoto, in Bunraku puppets it is called Ofuku, and in Kyogen masks it is called Otogoze and Oto. In Sato Kagura it is a pair of clowns and Hyottoko. As a Kagura mask, it is of the Fukujin type. Later, ugly women who resemble this mask were generally called Okame and Otafuku. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
