...Dances (dance songs) often have unequal beat combinations, such as the 7/8 (3+2+2 or 2+2+3) kalamatianos and the 9/4 (2+2+2+3) zeybekkis. Rebetikos, sung in downtown bars and danced to, are representative of urban popular music. They are accompanied by bands that mainly play the bouzuki, a stringed instrument of Turkish origin, and are therefore also called bouzuki music.
