?-1381(Kouwa 1/Eitoku 1) A hermit from the world during the final period of the Northern and Southern Courts. He served the Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu and was called Minami Amida Buddha of Ebina. He was a fan of Noh and was apparently skilled in Renga and other performing arts. He was one of the authors of "Murasaki no Senku" (Thousand Verses from the Murasaki Plain), and was also included in the "Tsukuba Shu" (Collection of Poems from the Tsukuba Plains), so he was a strong influence in that field as a member of Yoshimitsu's circle. The activities of hermits close to the Shogun, such as Minami, contributed greatly to the elevation and refinement of Sarugaku Noh, which was still often overshadowed by Dengaku at the time.
