TRON (English spelling)
A project aiming to build a new computer system based on real-time performance, unified operability, and open architecture. The abbreviation stands for The Real-time Operating system Nucleus. It is a purely domestic project proposed by Ken Sakamura of the University of Tokyo. It was proposed in 1984 under the slogan "Anywhere Computer," and in 1986 the TRON Council was formed with the participation of related companies, and in 1988 the TRON Association was established. Since then, research and development has been carried out on TRON-specification microprocessors, as well as ITRON (Industrial TRON) for device control, BTRON (Business TRON) for personal computers and workstations, and CTRON (Communication and Central TRON), an operating system OS interface for information and communication services. ITRON is widely used as the OS for controlling digital home appliances such as mobile phones.

An isotope of radon. Its atomic symbol is Rn, its atomic number is 86, and its mass number is 220. It is also called Tn. It is a naturally occurring radioactive element, and its natural radioactive decay series belongs to the thorium series ( 4n series). It decays into thorium A (ThA or 216Po ) by alpha decay with a half-life of 51.5 seconds. The parent nucleus is thorium X (ThX or 224Ra , half-life 3.64 days, alpha decay). It is also called thorium emanation.

リアルタイム性や操作性の統一,オープンアーキテクチャを基本とする新しいコンピュータ体系構築を目指すプロジェクト。The Real-time Operating system Nucleusの頭文字をとった略称で,東京大学の坂村健が提唱した純国産プロジェクトである。1984年に「どこでもコンピュータ」を掲げて提唱,1986年関係企業が参加した TRON協議会を経て 1988年社団法人トロン協会が発足した。以降,トロン仕様のマイクロプロセッサの研究開発をはじめ,機器制御用の ITRON; Industrial TRON,パーソナル・コンピュータやワークステーション用の BTRON; Business TRON,情報通信サービス用オペレーティングシステム OSインターフェースである CTRON; Communication and Central TRONなどの研究開発が進められている。なかでも ITRONは携帯電話などデジタル家電での制御用 OSとして広く使用されている。
