第4回十字軍のコンスタンティノープル占領(1204)の際,ポントスの黒海沿岸ギリシア都市トレビゾンドTrebizond(別名トラブゾン,古名トラペズスTrapezus)に落ち延びたビザンティン貴族アレクシオス・大コムネノスが,ゲオルギア女王タマルの支援で建てた国家(1204‐1461)。公式の支配者称号は,〈全アナトリア,イベリア(カフカス南)人,ならびに海のかなたの地(クリミアを指す)の皇帝basileus kai autokrator〉。
