Syndicalism

It is often used with an adjective indicating the professional character of the movement's participants (workers, farmers, managers, etc.) or their ideological tendency (revolutionary, reformist, Christian, etc.), and when used alone, it often means the labor union movement. However, at the time this word was established, the so-called revolutionary syndicalisme révolutionnaire, which aimed to achieve revolution through union movements, was the mainstream in the French labor union movement, so the word syndicalism came to be used internationally as a proper noun to refer to this movement or a similar tendency. …

…サンディカsyndicat(組合)を語源とするフランス語で組合の形態をとる社会的運動を指す。英語ではシンディカリズムsyndicalism。しばしば運動主体の職業的性格(労働者，農民，経営者など)，または思想的傾向(革命的，改良主義的，キリスト教系など)を示す形容詞を付して用いられ，単独に使用される場合は多く労働組合運動を意味する。だが，この語が定着した当時，フランス労働組合運動では組合運動を通じて革命を達成しようとする，いわゆる革命的サンディカリスムsyndicalisme révolutionnaireが主流を占めていたため，国際的にはサンディカリスムの語はこの運動，もしくは類似の傾向を意味する固有名詞として使用されることになった。…
