This right to freedom is guaranteed by Article 18 of the Japanese Constitution: "No person shall be subjected to any form of slavery, nor shall he be compelled to perform forced labor against his will, except as punishment for a crime." Slavery-like restraints refer to physical restraints that are considered to be comparable to those of slaves. Examples of such restraints include slaves, public and private prostitutes who are held in conditions that ignore their dignity, workers in "prison cells" or "octopus rooms," and human trafficking. 日本国憲法の18条〈何人も,いかなる奴隷的拘束も受けない。又,犯罪に因る処罰の場合を除いては,その意に反する苦役に服させられない〉で保障されている自由権。 奴隷的拘束とは,奴隷なみと考えられるほどに身体を拘束することをいう。奴隷,人格を無視した拘束のもとにおかれている公娼・私娼,〈監獄部屋〉〈たこ部屋〉の労働者,人身売買などが該当する。奴隷的拘束からの自由とは,そのような身体の拘束からの自由を意味する。
