Born: November 17, 1790, Ajinaga
Died November 21, 1876, London. Portuguese soldier and politician. Duke. During the Peninsular War, he fought in the anti-British camp and was captured, but was released and traveled to Brazil. After returning to the country in 1823, he joined the Liberal faction during the civil war over the succession to the throne, and participated in the cabinet formed after the accession of Maria II to the throne. He was in power from 1847 to 1849 and from 1851 to 1856, and contributed to the establishment of political stability under the two major parties in the second half of the 19th century.
