In the 1950s, it became popular worldwide, and in 1952, the American Percy Faith Orchestra recorded the Bayon rhythm, Delicado (composed by Brazilian composer Waljir Azevedo), which became a hit. In 1953, the Brazilian film O Cangaceiro, which used a folk song from northeastern Brazil arranged to Bayon as its theme song, won the Music Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
