...Originally a folk song, Luiz Gonzaga (1912- ), an accordionist from Pernambuco, made it popular as dance music after 1945. In the 1950s, it became popular worldwide, and in 1952, the American Percy Faith Orchestra recorded the Bayon rhythm, Delicado (composed by Brazilian composer Waljir Azevedo), which became a hit. In 1953, the Brazilian film O Cangaceiro, which used a folk song from northeastern Brazil arranged to Bayon as its theme song, won the Music Award at the Cannes Film Festival. The Bayon rhythm is in two beats, and is characterized by a bouncy feel. ...
