1914‐90 French cellist. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire and later studied under Casals. From 1935 he served as cellist for the Monte Carlo Opera Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Paris Conservatoire Orchestra, and from 1947 he began working as a soloist. In 1957 he became a professor at the Paris Conservatoire. His performances are characterized by their powerful and elegant style. He also composed works such as the Israel Symphony (1956).
