1844‐1917
French journalist and politician. Born in Paris, he worked at the Seine department before moving into journalism. In 1886, he published "France the Jews," an accusation against Jewish influence in 19th-century France, which caused a great stir. He subsequently published many anti-Semitic works, which sparked several duels. In 1892, he founded the anti-Semitic daily newspaper "Libre Parole" and conducted a fierce anti-Dreyfus campaign. In 1898, he ran for the National Assembly from Algiers, but was defeated in 1902.

フランスのジャーナリスト，政治家。パリに生まれ，セーヌ県庁につとめたあとジャーナリズムに入った。1886年，19世紀のフランスにおけるユダヤ人の影響を告発する《ユダヤ人のフランス》を刊行して大きな反響を呼び，引き続いて多くの反ユダヤ主義の著作を発表していくつかの決闘事件を引きおこした。92年には反ユダヤ主義の日刊紙《リーブル･パロール》を創刊，激しい反ドレフュスのキャンペーンを行った。98年にはアルジェから立候補して下院に当選，1902年には落選した。
