French film director. Born in Paris on February 6th. A film lover since childhood, he became acquainted with film critic André Bazin, and after completing his military service he began making short films while writing for film magazines. His first feature-length film, The 400, was autobiographical and based on his childhood experiences, released in 1959, followed by the thriller parody Shoot the Piano Player (1960), and the romance masterpiece Suddenly, Like a Flame (1962). He became one of the most distinctive directors of the French New Wave. In addition to his debut work, he also produced four films that followed the growth of the young Doinel, including "Love at Twenty" (1962), "Lovers in the Night Fog" (1968), and "Family" (1970). His other works include "Fahrenheit 451" (1966), "The Bride in Black" (1968), "Etude of Love" (1971), "American Night" (1973), "Adele's Love Story" (1975), "Truffaut's Adolescence" (1976), "The Green Room" (1978), and "The Last Train" (1980). As an actor, he also appeared in his own film "The Wild Boy" (1969), as well as the American film "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (1977). In 1962, he interviewed director Hitchcock, of whom he was an admirer, for a total of 50 hours, and published a collection of interviews entitled "The Films of Alfred Hitchcock" (1966), which became a valuable record. He died of cancer on October 21, 1984.
