It is an international ocean-going yacht race. In 1851, the American yacht America won the silver cup in a race around the Isle of Wight in England, and the New York Yacht Club, which was donated the cup, organized a race to challenge for the cup. The United States had won 25 times until 1980, but in 1983 Australia won, taking the cup outside the United States for the first time. Japan also participated in 1992, but was eliminated in the semi-finals, finishing in fourth place, and in 1994 it was eliminated in the qualifying rounds. The total cost of one challenge is over 2 billion yen, and it is said to be a competition of people, things, and money.
