1462‐1516 German clergyman. German name Johannes Tritheim. Born in Trittenheim, he became abbot of Sponheim in 1482 and Würzburg in 1506. He lived a passionate Catholic life and worked hard to reform monasteries and collect manuscripts, but he also had an astrologer and magician side, thinking about the seven planets that rule the world. He left behind an interesting letter report (1507) about JG Faust, a historical figure who is said to be the model for the Faust legend.
