...Chan Chan, a culture centered on the city of Trujillo on the northern coast of Peru. Just before it was conquered by the Inca Empire (1400s), it controlled about 1,200 km of coastal land from Tumbes in the north to the current Lima area in the south, and had several regional political centers in the Lambayeque and Pacasmayo valleys, forming the vast Chimú Kingdom, which also included the culture-different Chancay in the south.
