Laodike (English spelling)

Wife of Antiochus II of Syria. Date of birth and death unknown. Divorced in 253 BC. Antiochus II married Berenice, daughter of Ptolemy II of Egypt, for political reasons, but shortly before his death he appointed Laodice's son Seleucus II as his successor. After the king's death, Ptolemy III tried to support Berenice, starting the Third Syrian War (246-241 BC, traditionally known as the Laodicean War), but Laodice had Berenice and her son killed, and overcame the difficulties of the war.

シリア王国のアンティオコス2世の妃。生没年不詳。前253年離別された。アンティオコス2世はエジプトのプトレマイオス2世の娘ベレニケと政略結婚したが，死の直前ラオディケの子セレウコス2世を後継として指名した。王の没後ベレニケを支援しようとするプトレマイオス3世は第3次シリア戦争(前246‐前241。古来ラオディケ戦争と呼ばれる)をおこしたが，ラオディケはベレニケとその子を殺害させ，戦争の難局をも乗りきった。
