Liver cancer. There are primary liver cancers (hepatoma and cholangiocarcinoma) and secondary liver cancers. Secondary liver cancer is often caused by the metastasis of digestive system cancer. Primary liver cancer often occurs following liver cirrhosis, and there is a high risk of it occurring from liver cirrhosis caused by viral hepatitis, especially in carriers of hepatitis B. There are no specific initial symptoms, but as the disease progresses, symptoms include general fatigue, loss of appetite, and a feeling of heaviness in the upper abdomen, as well as jaundice and accumulation of ascites. Surgical removal is often difficult, and treatment involves anticancer drugs, hepatic artery embolization, and ethanol injection therapy.

肝臓癌。原発性肝癌（ヘパトーマおよび胆管癌）と続発性肝癌がある。続発性のものは多くは消化器系癌の移転による。原発性肝癌は，肝硬変にひき続いて発生することが多く，ウイルス性肝炎，とくにＢ型肝炎のキャリアに起こった肝硬変から発生する危険性が高い。特有の初期症状はなく，進行すると全身倦怠(けんたい)感，食欲不振，上腹部重圧感などがあり，黄疸(おうだん)が現れ，腹水がたまったりする。手術による切除は困難な場合が多く，治療は制癌薬，肝動脈塞栓(そくせん)術，エタノール注入療法による。
