Italian painter and mosaicist active in the late 13th century. Dates of birth and death unknown. There are few records of his life, but he is known for the mosaics in the apses of the Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano and the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. The latter's "Coronation of the Virgin" adheres to the Byzantine style in terms of gold background and color scheme, but also shows the influence of Cavallini, who was his contemporary. The murals of the Old and New Testament stories in the Senate of the Church of San Francesco in Assisi are also said to be his work, but there are many questions about their attribution.
