A ranch belonging to the Umeryo, located in the alluvial plain between the lower reaches of the Ai River and the Yodo River in Shimashimo County, Settsu Province. It is in the area of present-day Settsu City, Osaka Prefecture. It was also written as Torikai. It is one of six Kinto ranches near Kyoto, which appear in the Engishiki. These ranches raised horses and cattle sent as tributes from various provinces, and horses were sent as needed for various festivals and imperial visits. The ranch had a separate business site, Torikai-in, where Emperor Uda traveled (Yamato Monogatari). There was also a port on the Yodo River, and in 935, Ki no Tsurayuki and his party anchored at the banks of a place called Torikahi no Mimaki on their way back to Kyoto from Tosa (Tosa Nikki). It is also recorded that Fujiwara no Yorimichi stopped there twice afterwards. Torikai Maki, which continued to exist until the 12th century, seems to have been turned into farmland and turned into a fiefdom, becoming a manor under the Samaryo domain, and it is believed that the Saionji family was in charge of the Shomu position during the Kamakura period. During the Muromachi period, there was a dispute between the Toin family, also from the Saionji lineage, and the Imadegawa Kikutei family over the Shomu position (or lordship position), which was settled under the jurisdiction of the Imadegawa Kikutei family. A Sarugaku troupe was formed in Torikai Maki. In 1395, a performance was held at Kiyotaki-gu Shrine in Daigoji Temple in Yamashiro, and the troupe was dispersed after a drowning, but was re-established in 1412 and was granted its long-cherished wish to perform at the Toji (Kyoogokokuji) Hachiman Shrine ritual. In 1418, he performed at Gokogu Shrine in Fushimi, Yamashiro, and in 1441 he was appointed as the head musician at Toji Hachiman Shrine and performed Horaku Sarugaku.
