…Khadi is a hand-woven cotton cloth, also called khaddar, and is one of the traditional rural handicraft products of India. The industry fell into decline as British rule was established, but in the 1920s, it was revived and encouraged by Gandhi, who led the popular nationalist movement, as an embodiment of the Swadeshi movement. At the Congress of the Indian National Congress in 1925, the All India Spinners' Association was established to systematically expand its production.
