〘noun〙① In a play, when a character speaks lines by himself, without an interlocutor, to let the audience know his inner thoughts. Also, the lines himself. Soliloquy. Monologue. ※From Edo to Tokyo (1921) by Yada Soun, 7th sentence: "There's nothing I can't stand when he looks up at the moon set on a basket and delivers a fearless and beautiful monologue ." ② By extension, when someone talks to themselves. Also, that monologue. ※We Can Never Forget (1935-36) by Takami Jun, 6th sentence: "He expresses his typical deep feelings through a monologue that sounds like him complaining."
