A sled-like means of transport used by the Indians of the Great Plains of North America. Usually two poles were tied to either side of a dog, while the other end was dragged along the ground, with a platform or net attached to the middle of the poles to hold the goods. After the introduction of horses with the Spanish, they were used instead of dogs to carry larger loads. Special short poles called trabois were made for dogs to pull, but the poles of a tepee (conical tent) were usually used for the horses.
