Toyama Plain - Toyama Heiya

Japanese:
Toyama Plain - Toyama Heiya

In a broad sense, it refers to the entire plains of Toyama Prefecture. It is bounded to the east by the Tateyama mountain range of the Northern Alps, to the south by the northern Hida mountain range, and to the west by the Tonami hills, and faces Toyama Bay to the north. It is divided into the Goto Heiya and Gosei Heiya plains by the Kureha Hills in the center. The East Kure Plain consists of a composite plain of old and new alluvial fans, such as the Jinzu, Joganji, Kamiichi, Hayatsuki, and Katakai rivers, as well as the independent Kurobe River alluvial fan.The West Kure Plain consists of the low-lying deltaic Imizu Plain, the Tonami Plain, which is mostly made up of the Sho River alluvial fan, and the low-lying Himi Plain, which is separated by Mt. Futakami.

The Toyama Plain in the narrow sense is part of the Kureto Plain, an alluvial plain facing Toyama Bay. It is an alluvial fan formed by the Jinzu River and the Jōganji River. The Jōganji River, which originates in Mt. Tateyama, is a rapid river with a large caldera collapse upstream that caused flooding in the plain by discharging large amounts of soil and sand. The center of the plain is Toyama City.
