Spectroheliograph

Also known as a spectroheliograph. A device for photographing the image of the sun in monochromatic light (Hα line of hydrogen, H line of calcium, K line, etc.). A narrow first slit is placed on the image of the sun produced by the objective lens to extract only a portion of it, which is then split into a spectrum by a prism or diffraction grating, and only the light of the required wavelength passes through the second slit to expose it to the photograph. The device is moved little by little to move the image of the sun on the first slit and photograph the entire image. A device with a similar structure for visually observing a monochromatic image of the sun is called a spectrohelioscope. This device moves the image of the sun at high speed by rotating a prismatic prism, allowing part of the sun's surface to be seen through an afterimage in the eye.

分光太陽写真儀とも。単色光（水素のHα線，カルシウムのH線，K線等）の太陽像を撮影する装置。対物レンズで生じた太陽像に狭い第１スリットを当てて一部だけ取り出し，この光線をプリズムまたは回折格子によりスペクトルに分け，第２のスリットにより所要の波長の光だけ通して写真に感光させる。装置を少しずつ動かして第１スリット上の太陽像を移動させ全体を撮影する。同様の構造で単色太陽像を眼視観測する装置をスペクトロヘリオスコープという。これは角柱プリズムの回転によって太陽像を高速で移動させ，目の残像で太陽面の一部を見るようにしたもの。
