Western Toyama Prefecture, an alluvial fan-shaped sedimentary plain of the Shogawa and Oyabegawa rivers. It is part of the Toyama Plain. A network of irrigation channels developed, rice fields were opened up, and it was the grain-producing region of the Kaga domain. The landscape of scattered villages is famous throughout the country, with farmhouses surrounded by groves of cedar, zelkova, bamboo, and other trees, known as kainyo, spaced out at intervals of 100 to 200 meters. In addition to rice cultivation, tulip bulb cultivation has been popular as a secondary crop since the Taisho period, mainly in the Tonami area. The center of agriculture is Tonami city.
