Japanese: 夜半の寝覚 - よわのねざめ

A full-length story from the late Heian period. It is said that the author was Sugawara no Takasue no Musume, but this is uncertain. The year of its creation is also unknown. Although many volumes are missing, this is a unique work that uses detailed psychological descriptions to depict the tragic love story of Nezame no Onna, the daughter of a minister of the Genji clan, and is marked by the influence of the Uji Ten Chapters of the Tale of Genji. It was beloved along with the Tale of Genji and the Tale of Sagoromo.

平安後期の長編物語。作者は菅原孝標女(たかすえのむすめ)と伝えるが確かでない。成立年次も不明。欠巻が多いが，源氏の大臣の姫君である寝覚の女君の悲恋を克明な心理描写を駆使して描いた異色作で，《源氏物語》宇治十帖の影響が著しい。《源氏物語》や《狭衣物語》とともに愛読された。
