Dramatic criticism

Dramatic criticism
It refers to the evaluation and critique of the results of theatrical performance activities such as plays, acting, and direction. Criticism of theatrical performances can be found as far back as 3000 BC in Egypt, but theoretical and analytical considerations began in Aristotle's Poetics in the 4th century BC. After a hiatus in the Middle Ages, it was revived in Italy and France during the Renaissance, and produced many neoclassical theorists. From the end of the 17th century to the 19th century, the focus was on individual works and acting theories, but from the end of the 19th century to the 20th century, theater criticism as an expression of one's own theatrical theory became popular again. Nowadays, with the development of media such as television and newspapers, performances are often announced in real time, and theater critics have a stronger influence on performances. On the other hand, theater criticism as traditional theater theory is popular in magazines. In Japan, the role of theater criticism was played by the "Yakusha Hyoban-ki" of the Edo period, but analytical and theoretical criticism began to be written after the Meiji period.
