Japanese: 切見世 - きりみせ

The lowest-class brothel in Edo Yoshiwara in the late early modern period. There were also brothels in various okabasho areas, and five to eight shops, each 4.5 to 6 shaku wide and 2.5 to 3 ken deep, were lined up in a row, so they were also called tsubonemise (tenement shops) or tenements. The rule was one prostitute per shop, and a brothel owner managed and operated several shops. "Kiri" means selling by the hour, and the going rate was 100 mon for the whole thing. The fee was one-tenth of that for higher-ranking prostitutes, but because the whole time was short, it seems that they often had to pay several times that amount.

近世後期の江戸吉原における最下級の女郎屋。各所の岡場所にもあったもので，間口4.5～6尺，奥行2.5～3間の店が5～8軒，長屋形式で続いていたため，局見世（つぼねみせ）(局店)，長屋ともいった。1軒1妓を原則とし，抱主は数軒を管理営業した。切（きり）とは時間売りの意で，一切（ひときり）100文が相場であった。この揚代は上級妓のそれの10分の1というものであったが，一切の時間の短いこともあって，その数倍を支払わさせることが多かったようである。
