These inscriptions were left by the Turkic nomadic nation, the Turks, who ruled from the mid-6th century to the mid-8th century in the region from North Asia to Central Asia. They are also called Orkhon inscriptions. The main inscriptions are the Bilge Khagan and Kul Tegin inscriptions, which were erected in the first half of the 8th century in the Orkhon River basin, which flows through almost the center of Mongolia. Both of these belong to the Turk royal family. The inscriptions are carved into marble over three meters high. One side of the inscription is written in Chinese, and the other side is a long passage in Turkic script. The text inscribed in Turkic script contains the history and achievements of the Turk ancestors, as well as a warning to their descendants not to abandon their nomadic lifestyle. The Turk inscriptions are one of the few historical records left by the nomadic peoples of North Asia themselves.
