Mr. Megata

Japanese: 目賀田氏 - めがたうじ

A medieval samurai family. Their original surname is said to be either Fujiwara or Minamoto, but the authenticity is unclear. They took this surname and were based in Mekada, Aichi County, Omi Province (present-day Hasanosho Town, Aichi County, Shiga Prefecture). From the early period of the Northern and Southern Courts, they have been active as powerful vassals of the Omi Sasaki clan for generations, but it seems that they split into two families, one belonging to the Kyogoku clan and the other to the Rokkaku clan, at an early stage. Nobukoku (whose Buddhist name was Genko) belonged to the Sasaki Takauji (Kyogoku Doyo) and distinguished himself in many battles. Danjochu Nyū Dogensen is known to have acted as deputy shugo for the shugo Rokkaku clan from 1355 (Shohei 10, Bunwa 4) to 1396 (Oei 3).

中世の武家。本姓を藤原氏とも源氏とも称するが真偽不明。近江国愛知郡目賀田(現，滋賀県愛知郡秦荘町)を本拠としてこの氏を称した。南北朝初期より代々，近江佐々木氏の有力家臣として活躍しているが，早い時期から京極氏に属するものと六角氏に属するものの2家に分かれたらしい。信職(法名玄向)は佐々木高氏(京極道誉)に属し幾多の合戦に戦功をあげた。弾正忠入道玄仙は1355年(正平10∥文和4)から96年(応永3)まで守護六角氏の守護代としての活動が確認できる。
